The Faculty of Science at Wasit University, as part of the activities of the Department of Life Sciences, held a seminar entitled “Sports: A Lifestyle, Prevention, and Treatment” in the presence of a group of college students.
The seminar, presented by Dr. Ali Hussein Sagheer and Dr. Zuhair Jalil, aimed to emphasize the great historical, cultural, scientific, and social role of sports, and to make it a priority for young people, as this segment represents a deep and dense population that forms the largest proportion of the Iraqi society.
The seminar also stressed the importance of sports as a pillar of support for society and its importance in consolidating the Iraqi national sense and love of the homeland by involving as many members of society as possible in local and public championships, festivals, and organizing them in all Iraqi cities to spread an atmosphere of citizenship and belonging. The importance of building the infrastructure of stadiums, squares, and swimming pools, providing sports equipment and tools, and paying attention to, supporting, and sponsoring the sports movement.
The seminar also recommended supporting and developing school and university sports, as they are important in building a healthy, scientific, cultural, and civilized society. It also recommended opening special sports halls in each college to encourage sports activities for professors, students, and employees, and emphasizing the importance of providing financial government support to all state sports institutions.
