The College of Science discusses a diagnostic study of intestinal parasites.

The College of Science at Wasit University discussed a Master’s thesis titled “A Diagnostic Study of Intestinal Parasites in Diarrhea Patients in Wasit Governorate.”

The study presented by the student Ghaydaa Musa Naji aims to diagnose the prevalent intestinal parasites in Wasit Governorate using microscopic and molecular techniques, including PCR. It also aims to determine the relationship between intestinal parasites and some variables, in addition to comparing the results of microscopic diagnosis with molecular diagnosis.

The study recommends conducting several research projects to identify the areas of intestinal parasite distribution in Wasit Governorate and utilizing modified Ziehl-Neelsen staining to diagnose the intestinal parasite Cryptosporidium parvum in laboratories and hospitals, as it is one of the major causes of diarrhea in Wasit Governorate. Furthermore, it emphasizes the importance of proper waste management and not directly disposing of waste into rivers since contaminated water sources are significant contributors to intestinal parasite infections.
