The College of Sciences is the academic tributary of Wasit University, encompassing various scientific disciplines. It offers an advanced scientific curriculum that reflects the diverse current and future research requirements.

Our college was established in 2002 and since then, it has grown to include five specialized scientific departments: the Department of Life Sciences (with its branches of Microbiology and Biotechnology), the Department of Physics (with its branches of General Physics and Medical Physics), the Department of Chemistry, the Department of Medical Analyses, and the Department of Earth Sciences. At the undergraduate level, the college grants a Bachelor of Science degree, and at the postgraduate level, it offers Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in Life Sciences (with a Master’s in Zoology and Microbiology, as well as a Ph.D. in Zoology) and Physics (with a Master’s and Ph.D. in General Physics).

The College of Sciences embraces academic activities that meet the societal aspirations as the foundation of intellectual culture. The college adopts an updated educational approach in theoretical and practical teaching for over 2000 male and female students. Additionally, it plays a vital role in supporting the research projects of more than 150 highly qualified faculty members, contributing to the community’s service and achieving distinguished research performance at the university level. This is evident through publications of research papers in reputable scientific journals indexed in global databases like Scopus and Clarivate.

Moreover, the college publishes the periodic scientific journal “Wasit Journal of Science and Medicine,” which undergoes rigorous peer-review. Also, the administrative staff plays a complementary role with its organizational structure and exceptional expertise in line with the college’s academic vision.

The College of Sciences aspires primarily to prepare a competent generation of graduates with expertise in general and specialized knowledge. They will attain Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. degrees according to the highest quality standards set by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. They will be capable of facing challenges in both the private and public sectors, or pursuing further studies in reputable regional and international universities.
